What changed, and why.

mote checks for updates once a day and downloads nothing without asking.

0.9.4
August 21, 2026
Public beta · Linux
Latest

The current beta. Everything on the documentation page is in this build; licensing arrives with 1.0.

In this build
  • Idle rendering removed entirely: with no input, no frames are produced. The caret blink is the only periodic repaint, and it can be turned off.
  • Command palette (Ctrl+K) lists commands and open files with fuzzy matching.
  • Outline sidebar tab. Click to jump; it follows the current view.
  • Tables are edited in place, and an edit changes only the bytes of its own cell. Tab, Shift+Tab, the arrows and Enter move between cells; a table longer than the page continues on the next one in PDF.
  • Undo takes back one gesture — a word, a paste, a table edit — not one keystroke.
  • Drafts and backups a person can read: a document that has nowhere to go is kept as a draft, and a file is never lost on the way to the disk.
  • Export: PDF and self-contained HTML keep the Read view's typography, paragraph spacing, lists, tables, code and images.
  • Word count handles Hangul, kana and CJK ideographs separately from Latin words; reading time uses per-script rates.
  • Zoom, a shortcuts window, Markdown toggles in the palette, a separate face for Source, and the conventional key chords.
  • Fixed: $$ no longer swallows the rest of the document; front matter is metadata, not a heading; Korean and spaced file names reach the disk under their own names; a heading stays a heading while its next syllable is composed.

0.9.0
July 30, 2026
Public beta · Linux
  • Linux builds: .deb, with Flatpak to follow. Wayland-native with X11 fallback.
  • Focus mode (F8) hides everything but the text. Move the pointer to the top edge to bring the header back; Esc exits.
  • Math: inline $…$ and block $$…$$, a TeX subset drawn by the app itself, rendered in Live and Read.
  • Find & replace (Ctrl+F, Ctrl+H) with case, whole-word and regex options, highlighted in all three views.
  • Images: paste one from the clipboard and it is saved as a PNG next to your document, in assets/, after you confirm.
  • The interface comes in 12 languages, English by default, switched instantly from Settings.
  • Korean input is tested on real hardware: Hangul composition through ibus-hangul passes every case of tools/ime_cases.sh.
0.8.0
June 12, 2026
Private beta · Linux
  • First build with Live, Source and Read — three views of one buffer, on Linux (GTK 4, libadwaita).
  • Byte-exact round-trip: a file is written back as the bytes you typed. Line endings, indentation, frontmatter and HTML pass through untouched, verified against the CommonMark spec corpus.
  • Folder sidebar, no indexing.
Versioning. Major versions (2.0) may change file handling and are a separate, discounted purchase for existing owners. Minor versions add features. Patch versions fix bugs and never change behaviour you rely on. Every minor and patch release inside your major is free.
